I just love blog surfing~especially the quilty blogs.
So HERE today I found a great quilt. So easy, with such a punch! No pattern really needed if you've been quilting a while on your own.
I'm so glad she posted the link to the pattern/idea HERE
This gal has the layout/design for a few different options for the quilt.
Lovely.
I love how they use scraps up, but presenting it with a solid background.
The dark grey fabric really does the trick, in my opinion. Such a statement!

not much going on.

what a week!

training all week.

you know the scene: sitting in a conference room, drinking coffee, listening, listening, listening, and more listening. Learning. overwhelmed with information.

3 more days next week of IN HOUSE training. then some on-the-job training out in 'the field' with the kids and families.
If I haven't explained my role yet, it's called direct support. Basically our company comes into the families homes BEFORE out of home placement (by CPS or by family choice). Basically the kid's behaviors are getting to be 'too much' and parents cannot handle situations. We go in as direct support to get the family back together and our goal is to keep the kids in home.

A very stressful job. Why do I always pick these? lol.
I mean seriously...I can just go to a coffee shop, sell donuts and coffee and talk to pleasant (maybe not sometimes) customers. I don't know. I figure every job has its challenges.

I'm taking it one day at a time. With my 'mental health issues' I can only hope the next day will happen smoothly and I will be OK. I'm not sure though sometimes. I am trying to stay positive and look at the glass half full.

Other than that, NOTHING has been going on. Very overwhelmed with a new job, and still my families challenges...Having to go to court Feb 3rd because they keep denying my son services through the state for his autism disabilities. :(

A mom just gets tired, ya know?

So I believe our high yesterday was 79 degrees here in AZ where I live.

So it got me thinking, what's YOUR weather like? And it got me cruising blogs about spring stuff. Well I found a couple great little tutorials for you. HERE and HERE

On a not-so-light(er) note...I have been taking my almost 9-year-old daughter to a counselor. (She has anxiety, mostly separation from me). She had her psych eval (sigh) appt this morning. The psych nurse wanted my daughter to start taking Prozac. (gulp). Apparently she thinks my dd's anxiety is bad enough to warrant it. I said ok as I cried inside and went home. Actually not straight home. Poor thing. She needed blood/lab tests taken and then had to drop of the script to CVS for this. Ugh people! I suffer from depression and anxiety and have for a long long time, since childhood. I know this stuff runs in families, but just didn't want to believe I had passed down this awful gene to my own daughter. We'll see how she does. Anyone else experience this with their children? Meds? Depressive/anxiety episodes? Oh being a parent just sucks (LOL). Thanks for listening to me whine a bit today.

Well I was in the stores the day after Christmas and ALREADY they have all the hearts out, reds, pinks, whites. Cannot believe it! I guess once one holiday goes, the other one comes. Here is a great sweet FREE pattern for a quilt (block).

Well that year just flew by for me...
Lots of ups and downs and personally I'm glad it's over and I'm looking onto 2012.

Well I went searching for more pics but it seems that I do not have many more of things I've created.

I almost forgot about that Celtics pillow I made for my son. He is 16 and just loves the Celtics. I handmade/hand created/cut this pillow and quilted it for him. He loved it~he said it's one of his best gifts.

2011 was a downer in terms of my job situation. I learned in July that the client did not need my services and since July I've been scrambling to 'get other work' for myself but come to realize there just isn't a whole lot out there any more for me in terms of medical transcription. I'm putting my transcription aside and will be working out of the home for now. It's always hard raising kids (especially 4) and having to work. Somehow we always make it through.

2012 looks positive for me. I'm thinking better job, better relationships, etc.

We shall see.

I hope everyone has a great New Year's and is SAFE!
I am not going out, not doing much but staying home.

Yep, I'm the big 4-0 today!
Last night my husband took me to Famous Dave's for my bday dinner, YUM~been to that place? Great bbq stuff!
All the fixins and a beer too!

Today actually I have an interview for a job.
My medical transcription thing just isn't panning out~the career is going downhill quickly and I think it's time to look for something stable.
Maybe I'll get the job for my bday! LOL.
Hubby is cooking me dinner tonight~such a great guy.

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and have a safe New Year's! Hubby works grave shift, so we won't be going out/celebrating. We never really do. So many drunks and crazies out that night. I like to stay in and watch good movies :)

Oh my! Where did December go?

Christmas in 7 days~are you prepared? More baking to do? More shopping to do? We KNOW you have gift wrapping to do.

So I started 2 small stitcheries for my 2 youngest kids. I got my daughter's done yesterday, so cute and my son's I have yet to start. They are small and I think I will make them into a small ornament or picture. I'm not sure yet. If they are ornaments they can only enjoy them at the holidays, but if I make them a small picture they can hang them on their wall or some such thing~who knows but I will take pics of them when I get them done. So cute, and vintage.

Lots of great freebies roaming the blogs lately~have you seen? I think this year I will make the yummy candy barks. I saw where they put white bark with craisins, nuts, and topped with dark drizzled chocolate then broken into bite-size pieces. YUM!

I have lots of ideas yet for the big day.

The kids are very excited of course, and driving a mommy nuts. LOL~too late!

The 2 little ones really want to see the Chipmunks movie~Oh my! I don't think I can survive another Chipmunks movie! especially loud in the theaters Ha ha ha! Might do that today. Don't know yet.

These are cookies made with choc chips and butterscotch chips~the recipe was the basic choc chip cookie recipe on the back of the Nestle bag. They were a bit greasy IMO, but yummy.

I really want to take the kids this weekend to see the new Chipmunks movie~looks so cute.

What are your plans for the weekend? Hopefully some relaxing time.

Life's questions~getting older and such.

Well I'm headed out in an hour to see my family doc.

Seems like lately I've been 'living' there, ha ha.

I turn the big 4-0 this month (Dec 29) and I feel like my body is just falling apart!

So I wanted to consult him on a few things.

In the past 12 months or so my toenails have gotten so extremely brittle that they are cracking way down at the cuticle, base, and tearing off! The one nail has gotten so 'thick'~and gross!

My docs have suspected Lupus for a long time with me, but all my lab work comes out fine, negative. The rheumatologist says there is a type of Lupus that is sero-negative (blood) and that is what he suspects. I've been seeing this doc for a year now and every time I go in it's the same story..."I just don't know what's wrong". UGH!

So I'm thinking today at the appt with my family doc I will get a new rheumatologist. I will ask about my nail issues. I recently had a colonoscopy and had a polyp removed, and now every 5 years colonoscpies, blech! I have Hashimoto's disease, which is a hypothyroidism issue, but once again, my lab work always comes back fine so they do not medicate me. SOMETHING is definitely going on with my body. The GI doc when I went for the consult for the colonoscopy told me that the next step might be to do a full body scan to see "if any other issues are presenting". Oh great, how much is THAT gonna cost!? Anyone have one of these yet?

I've yet to schedule my 40 year mammogram. I just feel like I'm falling apart. Funny, I do not feel old. My body thinks I am though LOL.

Well, thanks for letting me vent a bit and if you have any insight about any of it, I'd love to hear it! I will always try to comment back in an email.

Well I ordered (finally) my Christmas cards from Snapfish over the weekend. Lovely photo card of the 4 kids. Great.

Get an email from them today stating they are behind and I won't get these for 2 weeks, WHAT?
I guess this year everyone's getting cards LATE!
Grrrr.

I mean really people, how many would order if they knew that they wouldn't get them in time for Christmas? NO ONE probably~ugh.

So I'm dealing with that.

It's been raining for 2 days here in the valley, Oh my!
Nice to get rain, but makes me sleepy~no time for that!

Too much gift wrapping, baking, decorating.

We just BARELY got our tree up Saturday, ha ha.

We have a few lights on the outside of our home.

Purchased this book yesterday at Barnes and Noble.
Actually, rewind a bit...

I purchased a new PC (Dell) at Best Buy and needed a MSOffice 2010 for Dummies book.
Of course, how do you go into a mega book store and only buy what you went in for?

Right~so I walked out with 2 gifts, and 2 items for me.~4 total, good.

I saw "The Help" book. I've not seen the movie or read the book. So with my free (HAHAHAHA) time I will read this. Did you see it? Heard it was excellent.

Ok, new stuff...
Want to make egg nog this year with alcohol~you know, the grown-up way. So I searched out the recipe in THIS is what I found. I'm not sure if I will make it from scratch, per se, but I wanted to know what alcohol to buy. I knew it was brandy (but wanted to check) and realized you can use (in this recipe) rum or bourbon as well. What do you thinK? Stick with Brandy?

Anywho~we're off to Bass Pro Shop to look around (we love this place) and then to walmart for some last minute shopping gifts.

I made one handmade Christmas gift so far. Here is the tree skirt I finished up yesterday for my mother.
You know, when I started this I envisioned something much nicer. This is kind of boring looking. But it is what it is....I'm sure she will like it either way~

And usually we don't see these guys in or around the house in fall/winter time.

Well, it's a crushed scorpion here...Didn't want him getting away while snapping his photo.

So yesterday was our BIG meeting at the school...
You know the one...
The one where they tell parents "your son is just fine".
Little bit of background if you've recently started following my blog...
Joe is Autistic.
He is 10 and has NO services.
YET DDD (department of developemental disability)~federally funded recognizes him as being autistic with a disability. Hence, he just started getting THAT.
The school, on the other hand, think we are just 'crazy' as parents.
Well they don't SAY this, but it's the looks we get.
And the tone.
And I quote from the speech therapist at yesterday's meeting " If by magic you get services one day...."
UM, EXCUSE ME M'AM!

I blew!

Yes BLEW. Well, I said "MAGIC? My son is not going to qualify for IDEA (special ed) services becuase of MAGIC!
She quickly apologized after I told her I felt undermined by her statements.
I mean REALLY PEOPLE!. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Don't make THIS mamma bear mad~she is protective. She wonders why schools don't listen to parents.

Oh I could go on but I won't.

So as it stands, Joe is getting NOW services ONLY for SLI (speech/language)~whatever.
What about the fact that he's in 5th grade, reading at a 2nd grade level?
What about the fact that the gen ed teacher said specifically at the meeting he is getting a "D" in writing?

Let's put it ALL UNDER THE RUG. No one will notice. And the mom will leave, once again, in tears.

I will be filing due process and going above and beyond to make sure my son gets the services he needs.
Nuf said about that.

Seems like I'm seeing Christmas earlier and earlier every year.

Halloween is less than a week away. Are you ready for the trick-or-treaters? Oh, don't shut your light off this year, get involved with the kids! There's nothing more disappointing than trick-or-treating with my kids and finding DARK streets upon streets. Joe is going to be Mario from the video game and Annalise is going to be some sort of hockey mask scary girl LOL. She says "let's use what we have around the house and not spend the money on another costume". Oh she's such a good girl (only 8!).

I found some GREAT looking yummy HOLIDAY recipes HERE for your enjoyment. I MUST try those Rolo cookies!

The Weekend~

I've been cruising fun blogs lately, seeing all the Halloween goodies out there.

I've picked up my pumpkin and every year wonder if I can make that perfect Jack-o-lantern. We will see what I come up with this year. I've been noticing the white sprayed pumpkins with stenciled writing and designs on them. Kinda cute actually. How are you decorating around your home?

Welcome Fall~

The first day of October is always very exciting here in Arizona.
The weather is starting to finally be tolerable!
I think the high here today where I live is only going to be 100~ Sounds hot to some, but to us that's heaven!

Medical news update: I had an EMG and nerve conduction study earlier this week. Pinpointed my carpal tunnel (mild at this time) and will be getting night splints for that. The sad news is that I will no longer be able to crochet. I do not want my condition there to get worse. With all the typing I do for my work I don't want to aggravate the problem further.

We will be having a garage sale in about 3 weeks. I think all my crochet goodies will go in the sale.

No crafting getting done. I've been working 'odd' jobs subbing in schools, working a bit at home for a gal in TX doing my medical transcription, and just interviewed for a bus aide job on a special ed bus. I need flexibility with my son and his 'issues' with his autism. I have come to terms (not so easily i must say) with the fact that I will not be able to work a 9-5 full-time job until he gets much older. I need to be home with the kids as much as possible. This means being WAY over-qualified for the jobs I apply to, hence the bus aide. I probably will get only $9.00 an hour. But I am ok with that. I see no other way.

Do you like my new background? I finally figured out how to apply it! ya me! lol.

What are you up to this weekend? My nephew is turning 10 and is having his party today. That's all on our agenda.

My baby quilt

I finally got this baby quilt finished.
A charm quilt, using 36 different fabrics for the 6 1/2 inch squares. Backed with Michael Miller lovely stripe pink/brown fabric with a bit of white stripe on the back (ran out of the MM fabric) and bound with love, for a perfect baby out there~who knows who LOL.
We are having a garage sale in late October, I might just try to sell it there, full price of course. I wonder what someone would pay for this beauty? How much do you think I should ask?

I saw a movie Friday and a movie yesterday.
Friday's movie was Idiot Brother with my friend. Well we went over to the theater to see a movie, that was the only thing that was playing. So we saw it. It was OK. Not that funny really.
Yesterday we saw Spy Kids. Took my 2 young ones. They really loved it. It was cute.
Had my interview last week. Thought I'd hear by Friday. No word. Guess I did not get it?
I think if I have not heard by Monday I can assume I did not get it.
I'm in such transition with jobs. I just don't know which way to go, which way to turn.
Ok, side note. I stopped at Joann's yesterday. Ended up purchasing 4 diff fabrics. Only like half yards of each. They are so cute. The one is a vintage Halloween looking one. The other is a Yoga dogs one. Very cute. The other 2 are Kona solids *I believe*. My memory is fading me now.
